Founder and Editor-in-Chief of YOOM, France Brunel is an in-training ayurvedic health counselor, a certified yoga teacher, and a life-long explorer of alternative medicines.

Born in France—yes, she’s named after her own country—France grew up and lived in Hong Kong and the U.S., with quick stops in Italy and India, before settling down in New York City in 2006.

Her years in the city were thrilling, working twelve-hour days on her own business and enjoying the never-stop culture of the city. But they also took a toll on her health, weakening her immune system and causing her body to shut down. That’s when she realized that she had to adjust her lifestyle in addition to caring for the chronic issues she had been neglecting for years (high cholesterol, eczema flare-ups, insomnia, and unexplained digestive issues). Trying the newest diet or the latest workout was not going to do the trick; she would have to find a more holistic, long-term, yet flexible approach. That’s what she found in Ayurveda.

After experiencing significant improvements to her health, France decided to become an ayurvedic health counselor and share her journey with women like her. As she studied the five-thousand-year-old Indian health system, she noticed many similarities with French culture: both have an intuitive, relaxed, gentle, and balanced outlook on wellbeing.

Drawing from both the principles of Ayurveda and the French way of life, she launched YOOM based on the belief that something is only good for us (and sustainable in the long run) if it achieves two things: answer our body’s unique needs and bring joyful pleasures to our lives.
